Current Frequency: Animus- V.I.E

The latest earworm from V.I.E., “Animus”, is a classy yet gritty taste of modern electro: punctuated with acid-tinged breakbeat and punchy techno-style drums, it’s the kind of song you want to blast full-volume through a beast sound system, loud enough that the bassline reverberates your teeth and makes them chatter.

The acid synth line threads through the track, leaving just enough space to breathe while still maintaining its driving beat and spangly, panning elements – tying them all together in a neat little bow. The staccato vocals keep the track feeling hyped and fresh. Her influences slowly rear their heads over the course of the track – the spiralling main breakdown strips back entirely and slowly introduces jersey club basslines before building back up into the breakbeat drop.

V.I.E. already has a handful of remixes and an EP under her belt as a producer, but this new song is definitely a step in a darker direction from her previous deep house and funky French electronica works. “Animus” has to be my favourite so far of her tracks, and I hope to see more fresh releases from V.I.E soon!

V.I.E. is a DJ and producer born and raised in Los Angeles. Her musical path began in Paris, where she shaped a sound influenced by electronic music, soul, hip hop, and Latin and Afro rhythms. Blending deep house, techno, electro, jersey club, ghetto tech, drum and bass, and jungle, her sets move between punchy percussion and hypnotic grooves, delivering a versatile, genre bending energy.
